Newlyweds Catherine and Ben Mullany were the innocent victims of a brutal murder in which two men from Antigua robbed and gunned down the couple as they slept in their Cocos resort cabin. The pair had been celebrating their two-week honeymoon in the tiny tropical nation of Antigua and were set to leave the next day. The motive for the gruesome murder remains unknown, but the gunmen Kaniel Martin and Avie Howell have shown no remorse for their crimes and have been found guilty of the murders, which is likely to result in life in prison without parole.

Shark attacks are every beachgoers worst nightmare, and may be the biggest concern for honeymooners wanting to enjoy the ocean blue. Gemma Houghton knows all too well about the dangers of swimming in the ocean alone. She and her new husband, Ian Redmond, were celebrating their honeymoon in the Seychelles Islands when their lives took an unexpected turn. While Gemma was sunbathing on the beach, Ian was mauled by a shark while snorkeling alone. She heard his cries for help, but by the time help reached him, he had lost too much blood and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

It sounds like something you'd only see in the movies, but this shocking honeymoon death is anything but fiction. After Jennifer and George Smith IV exchanged vows in a picturesque Rhode Island wedding, the couple set sail aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Mediterranean. The honeymoon took a horribly tragic turn when George disappeared while cruising the Aegean Sea. The couple had been drinking heavily the night of his disappearance and got separated from one another. Jennifer was found passed out on the other side of the ship, but there was no sight of George anywhere. A mysterious red stain was found below the couple's balcony, but the staff washed it away before any evidence was collected. George's death remains unsolved, but his family believes he was murdered.

In August 2011, newlyweds Jonathan and Emma Gray traveled to Maldives to celebrate their honeymoon, but never made it back to their home in the UK. The young couple was killed in a tragic accident on the way back to their resort villa. The quad bike they were riding in crashed into a tree and killed the newlyweds instantly. The driver, who was allegedly not employed by the hotel, was seriously injured in the accident and has been investigated. In 2010, Anni and Shrien Dewani celebrated their honeymoon in South Africa, but the trip took a shocking turn when the taxi the couple was traveling in was hijacked and the 28-year-old bride was shot and killed. Anni's body was found in an abandoned taxi and her belongings had been stolen. The husband, Shrien, has been accused of plotting to have his new wife murdered by offering the taxi driver, Zola Tongo, money to kill Anni. Tongo agreed to a plea bargain and will be jailed for 18 years and two other men have also been charged with murder, robbery, and kidnapping.

Michaela Harte
Michaela Harte and John McAreavey traveled to Grand Gaube, Mauritius to celebrate their honeymoon, but what was supposed to be a romantic trip turned into everyone's worst nightmare. While Michaela was inside the hotel room alone, three staff members broke in and attacked the young bride. The thieves came to steal money from her purse that was lying out, but when she confronted them searching her purse, the situation escalated. She was strangled to death and put in the bathtub to make it look like a suicide. Avinash Treebhoowoon, Sandip Mooneea, and Raj Theekoy have all been charged in the heinous crime.

Kristy Cadman-Jones
Newlyweds Damian and Kristy Cadman-Jones celebrated their honeymoon with a four-week excursion throughout Cambodia, but as they were wrapping up their romantic trip, the unexpected happened. Kristy suffered a fatal heart attack. The 27-year-old bride's husband, family, and friends were completely shocked by the tragedy and there has been no mention of any known health problems.
