So your home is up for sale and you’ve got a live one on the line. Your realtor is showing the house to a prospective buyer and you don’t want to be in the way, not to mention you’ve got other things to take care of now that you’re moving, so what to do? Let’s consider ten options for you to kill time while your house is being shown:
- New furniture – Shop for furniture for the new place. If you’re moving up in house size, you’ve probably got more space than furnishings, meaning it’s time to hit the furniture store. This might be a good time to look at bedroom suites for that 4th bedroom.
- Spend time with your neighbors – Visit all of your current neighbors. Since you’re going to be relocating, spending some quality time with them before you move could be a good idea, especially if you’ve maintained a close relationship with them throughout your stay in the apartment complex or neighborhood. This could also double as quite a productive visit if you hope to enlist some help in your move.
- Do a little extra home work – Do some yard work or home maintenance. Demonstrating that you’re a conscientious homeowner can help with the sale. Buyers like to know that a home has been kept up by the previous owner.
- Take some time to travel – This occasion is a good excuse for a family field trip or planning a visit to nearby relatives. Pack the clan into the SUV and head out for some fun. If you’re moving within driving distance, maybe check out the new neighborhood together.
- Fit in a work out – Go to the gym. Lord knows you’ll need your strength for the move, so go on and take the opportunity to work on your 50-lb. box curls. Then practice your small appliance squats and lawn furniture lunges.
- Look at potential new homes – If you’re still in the market for a new house and staying in the area, coordinate the showing with some appointments to look at new homes. If you are moving out of the area, make some calls to local realtors where you plan to move.
- Mark items off your to-do list – Coordinate showings of your house with your own appointments – doctor, hairdresser, dentist, etc. Now you’ve got more incentive to take care of visits you may have otherwise put off. Make the most of it.
- Go to work – The easiest way to make sure you’re out of the way when prospects are coming by to look at your home is to have the showings scheduled during your work hours whenever possible.
- Catch up on new flicks – Go see a movie. When’s the last time you actually went to a theater to see a film? Well, here’s a great excuse to experience a bit of nostalgia. Take in a matinee, grab a bucket of popcorn, and enjoy a trip down memory lane.
- Stick around to answer any questions – The buyers might prefer to meet the present owner before making a decision. Your availability to address any issues or sticking points could make all the difference.
