10 Differences Between Cheap Services and Discounted Services

I tell on myself quite often. I look for cheap service instead of discounted services. I did not think of there being a difference until I learned my lesson the hard way. It would probably make for a great spirit booster, should I tell it. I have the feeling it would make someone else feel less foolish knowing there was another like them in the world. That said, let’s explore the difference in “We sell cheap cars” vs “we sell cars cheap”.

There are fast talkers in the service business, and some people are vulnerable to them. In that we are looking for work to be done reasonable with a reputable company. However not knowing who to call, we check the newspaper and start calling numbers. I worked for an overhead door installer for 14 years. His philosophy was, “I don’t want to be the cheapest; I just want to be the best.” And he was the biggest garage door businesses in town.

  1. Cheap doesn’t have to be expounded on much, in that it sounds budget friendly but often the quality is inferior. Whether in services or purchases.
  2. When I hear someone say, “I work cheap, I just try to make a few bucks off any job.” Then I become uneasy. Like I said in the second paragraph above these are usually fast talkers.
  3. Beware of cheap web design companies who advertise their service by calling it cheap. After you’ve paid your money you may get something you could have done yourself without even knowing how.
  4. How about those Dental advertisements saying they will make a pair of dentures for $200?

They are budget friendly; however the quality of materials and even the fit should be factored into the decision before using a cheap dental service.

  1. While cheap may be a scary word to some, it is also a turn on to others. We all look for bargains; however I must warn you to check out the company you are looking at for repairs. A few months ago I called a plumber to do several small repairs around the house. I found one in the Newspaper service ads and gave him a call. He came Johnny on the spot the next day, and kept telling me “It won’t cost you much”, without settling on something (even in the ball park) I could work with. I then asked him for references and he changed from a business man to an almost foaming at the mouth tiger. “I will not give you my family’s names so you can call and check on me. If you don’t trust me to fix an outside faucet, then you shouldn’t have called me!” Yep that is what he said. Do you believe he got the job?
  2. I love discounts. That is what I call a sale. Senior citizens discounts are wonderful on a fixed income, and the job is usually well done.
  3. Having an idea what someone charges for a particular job is great, then if they give you a different price, you can appreciate their thoughtfulness.
  4. Cheap reminds me of a shoddy job. I guess it is the frame of mine in which one looks at it. Cheap may not have the same connotation that it does to others. Cheap may mean that is what I can afford. However I do have to stand by the thought above that the word discount sounds much better.
  5. Some of us may be addicted to discounts. That isn’t a bad thing, but those of us on a budget are wise to look for quality at a discounted price – and in truth we may find we got something of quality at a cheap price.
  6. However looking for someone to remodel my kitchen, or renovate a house, caution should be taken in the builder/carpenter. He may work cheap, and do cheap work. Then again, he may be reasonable and do a wonderful job. It pays to check references on anyone who comes by to give you an estimate on the work you want done. Be willing to pay $100 more if the references show one guy to do inferior work over the other one whose references prove he does great work. It may be worth it in the long run to pay a little more for quality.

I guess it boils down to the one who needs service. Knowing the market of what you need done helps in choosing the right person for the job. Cheap shoddy work we can do without. A good job well done at a discount – great! That we can handle.
